Last Saturday at the Brewery Arts Centre the Kendal Public was awed by the performance of Scott Matthews.
Scott is one of those rare artists who is incredibly gifted as singer and guitarist, an amazing songwriter but also a genuinely nice guy.
His style is reminiscent of Nick Drake, Midlake and Elliot Smith. It is dreamy and melancholic taking you to magical places.
Because it was just him without the band it was a very intimate and personal performance.
It was also a risk, because there was nowhere for him to hide, but he didn’t need to, he is such an amazing artist each song was performed perfectly.
He played some of his older work and a few from his last album ‘home’, which was released earlier this year. Just like his previous albums this is another little gem, which to my opinion should have a place in every music lovers music collection. So if you don’t have it yet, go get it. Or better still, if you have to opportunity to go and see him live, go and see him and buy the album afterwards. And whilst you’re there go and have a chat with him because he really is one of the nicest, most talented, guys you’ll meet.
